On a sunny Saturday, a woman sitting on a bench in the middle of the City is usually no cause for concern. Or is it? She huffs with displeasure as she removes a high-heel pump to examine the state of her toes. Still intact. Not too numb. No blisters. Yet. She wiggles them to circulate blood before slipping the shoe back on.
[ooc: Sob. Idk. Please backdate to Saturday afternoon? Also, he's going to find himself attracted to girls 8(]

Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 03:02 am (UTC)Such is the life of a cat.
But Rudy's been keeping busy today, even so, and as it happens, his travels are currently taking him straight through the middle of the City. He trots along purposefully--no aimless kittenish meandering for him--and, as it happens, ends up taking a path that will bring him straight past the woman on the bench.]

Date: 2010-07-18 03:21 am (UTC)There's no need for that.
[When he speaks his tone is cool and collected, every bit Adrian Veidt even though his pitch is up a few octaves. He lifts his hand from the cat and watches to see what it'll do.]
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 03:30 am (UTC)[He's very matter-of-fact, as talking cats go. But then, people have been reacting to him in a variety of ways today, from positively incredulous to perfectly accepting, and he's not about to alter his approach merely to attempt to accommodate what he thinks a person might say. Besides, the woman talked to him first, so perhaps she'll take well to a talking cat. Who knows?
But he can't shake the feeling that there's something familiar about this woman in particular, even if he can't put his finger on it yet.]
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 03:33 am (UTC)I apologize. I didn't know.
[His apology is half-sincere because through this meeting he now has the opportunity to solve the identity of the talking cat. A welcome distraction from just about everything else.]
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 03:38 am (UTC)[And, with supreme dignity, he sits down and puts his claws away, calmly licking his paw instead.]
Talking cats appear to be fairly unusual around here, despite all the other magic stuff.
Action;

Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 03:50 am (UTC)[He flicks his tail a bit irritably.]

From:Action; OH DEAR LORD ATTRACTED TO GIRLS? now I feel obliged
Date: 2010-07-18 03:41 am (UTC)She passes a blond woman sitting on a bench, and catches those killer heels said stranger just put back on. They're nice, yes, and she's almost tempted to ask where she got them, but at the same time she winces. Laurie knows that feeling well.]
Heels are such a pain in the ass. Sometimes I wonder why us women bother.
Action; IT TOOK BEING ONE TO CONSIDER IT
Date: 2010-07-18 03:51 am (UTC)When he notices Laurie he knows he's in a bit of a spot, but an Academy Award Winning act can go places, so Adrian maintains his cool. He stays where he is.]
I've heard high heels were invented by a woman who didn't like being kissed on the forehead.
[He smiles.]
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 03:58 am (UTC)And I've heard that they're just another way to keep women from running away.
[Laurie looks down at her own heels. After losing her job due to the City just sucking, she didn't really have the privilege of buying expensive shoes without taking some of Dan's money. And she kind of felt bad...ripping off the government was one thing, but Dan, well, it wasn't fair to him.]
Of course, I already mastered the art of running in high heels.
[And kicking ass, of course.]
Looks like your toes aren't used to the strain.
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 04:06 am (UTC)I think men occasionally forget heels can keep a woman from running after him.
[Considering the form he wears today, this is an empowering statement. What woman shouldn't be encouraged to chase down an asshole and punch his face in? Considering who he actually is, well, no wonder he enforces a dress code at work, not that Adrian will ever acknowledge being stalked by women. He tilts his head at her remark.]
I'm breaking them in.
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 04:13 am (UTC)And of course, he's speaking to one of the women who did stalk him during her time in the City. Luckily that stalking didn't get her that far, and it wasn't the creepy, rape-ish sort of stalking.]
I think my mother forgot about that part, too...
[That statement was practically aside, more thoughtful than an actual response. Her mother was the one who designed the costume, and for the first couple months of breaking in the entirety of that shitty costume, Laurie had a difficult time chasing down petty criminals.
Of course, after teaming up with Jon, running after someone was practically pointless.]
So they're new then. Mind telling me where you got them? As painful as they look.
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 04:20 am (UTC)[A boutique somewhere near the Palace, a place he'll be avoiding all day lest someone put two and two together.
And while he's heard the aside, he knows why he shouldn't address it even though it would only be natural for a stranger to express curiosity. As for the style of costume and general work wear...Adrian would be a liar if he said he didn't like power shoulders. The heels though, if he's going to be a lady he sure as hell won't be doing that in flip flops. And a little YSL never hurt anyone.]
Are you planning to run in your own pair?
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 04:27 am (UTC)[Of course, Laurie avoids the Palace at all costs, considering he works there.
Laurie shakes her head, giving the supposed stranger another one of her good-natured laughs.]
God no, I wouldn't want to scuff them up. I save the shitty heels for that.
[Such as the ones she's wearing right now.]
I just need something to liven up my wardrobe, y'know?
Action;
Date: 2010-07-18 04:34 am (UTC)[Here he gestures for Laurie to have a seat on the bench with him. How unexpected(?) that they would be on congenial terms when he's a stranger. Oh and female.]
I can understand that. A little glamor is a gift of self-confidence, not because clothes make a woman but because she chooses to make that stylish statement.
